What is the IAB AI visibility framework?
The IAB’s "Measuring Visibility in the AI Era" (August 2026) is the industry’s shared vocabulary for AI visibility measurement. It defines the metrics, the quality thresholds and what a measurement provider has to disclose.
Metrics sit in a causal hierarchy called the 4 P’s: each layer only matters if the one above it holds. It exists because more than twenty companies sell AI visibility tools and, measuring the same brand, produce different numbers. Senso reports its metrics in this vocabulary, and states its denominators, so its numbers can be checked against anyone else’s.
| Layer | Asks | Senso reports |
|---|---|---|
| Presence | Does the brand appear? | mention_rate, share_of_voice, Citation Rate |
| Prominence | Where, and how prominently? | avg_rank |
| Portrayal | In what context, how accurately? | sentiment, and gaps |
| Persuasion | Does visibility drive action? | Not measured — needs platform click data |
